Kai Wah Chan: SDI Instructor Trainer Ambassador

Hi, I’m Chris Chan, I’m honored to be a part of the SDI Instructor Trainer Ambassador Program. I am an Instructor Trainer Evaluator (ITE) from Hong Kong and I owned a dive shop called “Diving Dragon” which is the SDI TDI 5 Star Professional Development Centre. I started teaching scuba since 2001 and been an SDI Member since 2004. Since the year 2000, I started learning diving from many different diving associations and SDI TDI ERDI supports me a lot and a wide range of courses make me grow too. I hope you guys can join us today!

What do you believe is the most important trait of a professional educator and why?

Be serious about what you’re teaching! No matter what the courses you are conducting, your attitude will influence others and you will only offer the best to your students when you are serious on your teaching.

What is your favorite SDI class to teach and why?

Instructor Course. I like to see people grow. Especially when they can become a dive professional, seeing my student start teaching others is always one of my joys.

What is a bucket list dive you still have?

CCR cave diving and CCR mine diving

What is one bit of advice you would give to a perspective Instructor candidate about to embark on becoming an SDI Instructor?

Be serious! Be serious about what you learn! Be serious about what you’re going to teach! And one more thing is to stay humble, learn from other divers. There are no “Dive God” don’t try to be.
