Freediver Training Equivalencies by Agency

PFI has been the gold standard for freediving since its beginning in January, 2000. There are many agencies who have developed freediving programs. You may have taken a course with one or more of them. Perhaps you would like to take a PFI course but don’t know whether your experience will count toward the course you want.

All agencies have a common goal. This is to make safer and better freedivers. What sets PFI apart are the techniques, terminology and minimum standards to pass each course. To help minimize confusion, we created an equivalency table of the ratings offered by recognized freediver training agencies.

At the top of the chart, you will find each training organization. Below this are their certification levels. The table allows you to quickly cross-reference ratings between organizations. If a certification listed is not equivalent to those of other organizations, the field will simply say not applicable.
